Greaves – Shareholder & Director
Mark C. Greaves graduated with an MA in Economics
from Cambridge University in 1977 and joined
N.M Rothschild & Sons Limited, spending
the next 25 years with Rothschilds in London,
Hong Kong and Singapore. He was appointed Managing
Director in 1994 at the age of just 37, and
assumed overall management responsibility for
all the group’s businesses in Asia, covering
investment banking, treasury, private equity
and related activities.
In 2002, he left Rothschild to set up Anglo
FarEast Group, an advisory and consulting business
specializing in transactions involving Asia
and the United Kingdom. During this time Mark
worked on various confidential assignments for
major listed companies and investment groups
in Asia and the United Kingdom. These included
Hanson Capital Limited, the London-based finance
house established by Lord Hanson, the founder
of Hanson Trust plc and one of the UK’s
most influential businessmen of the past 40
years. This led to his appointment as Chief
Executive of Hanson Capital In December 2004
with the primary objective of further developing
the firm’s business in Asia.
Mark, who is a member of the Institute of Directors
in London, is registered with the Financial
Services Authority of the U.K. and was for many
years a Council Member of the Singapore Investment
Banking Association. In addition to his role
with Hanson Capital, he is an independent non-executive
director of Gome Electrical Appliances Holding
Limited, China’s largest electrical and
electronics retail group which is listed in
Hong Kong with a market capitalization of some
US$1.5 billion.
Mark was born in Belgium, educated in the U.K.
and has now lived in the Far East for over 25
years. He divides his time between Asia and
Europe, keeping homes in Singapore (where he
has Permanent Resident status) and London.
